Who we are

Gatik, the leader in autonomous middle-mile logistics, is revolutionizing the B2B supply chain with its autonomous transportation-as-a-service (ATaaS) solution and prioritizing safe, consistent deliveries while streamlining freight movement by reducing congestion. The company focuses on short-haul, B2B logistics for Fortune 500 retailers and in 2021 launched the world’s first fully driverless commercial transportation service with Walmart. Gatik's Class 3-7 autonomous trucks are commercially deployed across major markets, including Texas, Arkansas, and Ontario, Canada, driving innovation in freight transportation.

The company's proprietary Level 4 autonomous technology, Gatik Carrier™, is custom-built to transport freight safely and efficiently between pick-up and drop-off locations on the middle mile. With robust capabilities in both highway and urban environments, Gatik Carrier™ serves as an all-encompassing solution that integrates advanced software and hardware powering the fleet, facilitating effortless integration into customers' logistics operations.

About the role

This role is onsite at our Mountain View, CA office!

What you'll do

  • Ensure the availability of high-quality geospatial data and location-based tools used in the daily operation of autonomous vehicle (AV) systems.
  • Gather, organize, and synthesize geospatial data to support Product, Engineering, and Operations teams in decision-making.
  • Maintain geodata quality for functionalities such as routing and data visualization.
  • Oversee the creation, evaluation, and updating of high-definition maps (HD Maps) for AV navigation with centimeter-level precision.
  • Work with online and custom mapping systems and REST APIs (e.g., Mapbox & Google Maps API) for real-time route computing, tracking, data visualization, and analysis.
  • Lead the development of digital twins for road infrastructure to simulate various environments.
  • Develop and optimize custom routing algorithms for AVs with multiple routing criteria.
  • Define and maintain updated versions of Operational Design Domain (ODD) specifications for AV operations based on predefined routes and track ODD changes.
  • Build data pipelines for efficient processing, storage, and distribution of large-scale geospatial data.
  • Manage spatial databases (including PostgreSQL with PostGIS extension, SpatiaLite, Oracle Spatial) to enable real-time and post-operation geospatial data processing.
  • Develop geospatial applications using Python and Django for scalability and system integration.
  • Implement real-time mapping solutions for data visualization and decision-making in dynamic AV environments.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance to ensure geospatial datasets are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with standards.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering teams to ensure effective geospatial data integration into AV operations.
  • Develop customized Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to enhance data visualization and decision-making.
  • Provide geospatial data for AV testing and simulation to improve performance in various conditions.
  • Monitor advancements in geospatial technologies to continuously improve geospatial platforms and AV systems.

What we're looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree or its foreign equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience as a software developer, software engineer, or in a related role/occupation in geographic information systems or geospatial technology.
  • 3 years of experience developing online map-centric platforms, implementing customized routing algorithms, and deploying solutions for large-scale geospatial ETL pipelines.
  • 3 years of experience designing and optimizing routing algorithms, including advanced solvers for vehicle routing problems with multi-dimensional constraints.
  • 3 years of experience with Python programming for spatial data processing and REST API development using modules such as GeoPandas, Folium, or Turf.js.
  • 3 years of experience developing advanced geospatial web applications using the Django web framework, GeoDjango extension, Django ORM, GDAL, and Shapely.
  • 3 years of experience with PostgreSQL with the PostGIS extension, Cassandra, and optimizing spatial queries for fast data mining in large datasets.
  • 1 year of experience synthesizing and visualizing large-scale geospatial datasets.
  • 1 year of experience conducting customer-facing workshops related to vehicle routing problem solvers and live track and trace solutions.
  • 1 year of experience developing solutions based on advanced GIS technologies, including spatial indexing, spatial clustering, map annotation, and LIDAR point cloud processing.

More about Gatik

Founded in 2017 by experts in autonomous vehicle technology, Gatik has rapidly expanded its presence to Mountain View, Dallas-Fort Worth, Arkansas, and Toronto. As the first and only company to achieve fully driverless middle-mile commercial deliveries, Gatik holds a unique and defensible position in the AV industry, with a clear trajectory toward sustainable growth and profitability.

We have delivered complete, proprietary AV technology - an integration of software and hardware - to enable earlier successes for our clients in constrained Level 4 autonomy. By choosing the middle mile – with defined point-to-point delivery, we have simplified some of the more complex AV challenges, enabling us to achieve full autonomy ahead of competitors. Given extensive knowledge of Gatik’s well-defined, fixed route ODDs and hybrid architecture, we are able to hyper-optimize our models with exponentially less data, establish gate-keeping mechanisms to maintain explainability, and ensure continued safety of the system for unmanned operations.
